Individual workplace assessment:

A chartered physiotherapist, who specialises in occupational health, ergonomics and workplace factors will carry out an individual assessment at the users place of work. The assessment will take approximately 30-90 minutes with the individual (dependant on the complexity on the individuals’ complaint) and the assessor will provide a report following this. The assessment will include
subjective complaints and specific work factors/tasks to analyse how the user ‘fits’ with each work task. The report will be presented to highlight findings, what on site alterations were made, further recommendations that should be made if appropriate and what advice was given to the user to further improve their wellbeing. If the report includes recommends for further equipment to be
purchased, suggestions on suppliers for this equipment will be included.

Fee

Ergonomics Work will provide a specialist in assessing users at the workplace. The fee will include travel time and costs, time spent carrying out the assessment/s and time taken to write the report.

The individual can request a follow up check, i.e. if further equipment has been purchased and unable to adjust as recommended.

Group DSE Awareness:

A maximum of 12 people at one time can receive training on “how to” adjust your DSE workstation appropriately to ‘fit’ you. Ergonomics Work will provide a specialist on DSE workstation set ups and explain each individual factor on how each user must adapt their workstation. This is not an individual session, but purely a teaching session for users to gain this information and adjust their workstation independently. A report is not necessary, but if any users’ workstation appears to be inappropriate and unable to be adjusted with the current equipment, particularly if they have a musculoskeletal complaint, further notice will be given to the employer of this. It would then be up to the employer to decide whether further action is required, i.e. an individual assessment required for the specific user in question and contact Ergonomics Work to request this. The business will be given confirmation of employee attendance on this course to maintain training records.

Sickness Absence & RTW Advice

Employees that are absent from work will require a statutory sickness note, most likely from their GP. Often the GP does not have a full understanding of their symptoms with relation to their work and will continually give them a ‘sick note’ until the employee feels that their symptoms have reduced significantly to be able to RTW.

However, individuals do not need to be 100% better before returning to work. If the business can accommodate the absent employee to RTW on a ‘phased’ return, i.e. reduced hours or duties, it can allow them to RTW earlier than anticipated by the GP. By supporting the individual to RTW earlier on a phased return can benefit the business by improving production as well as benefiting the employee to enable tem to accommodate to what their musculoskeletal system required of them. Employees often appreciate a phased RTW as they are often anxious and apprehensive that they would be expected to work to their full capacity immediately on a return.

"Ergonomics Work" can offer recommendations to the business on an appropriate phased RTW for the individual with their consent.
