What the Assessment will Include

A chartered physiotherapist, who specialises in occupational health, ergonomics and workplace factors’ will carry out an individual assessment at the users place of work. This expert assessor has the understanding of musculoskeletal pain and discomfort experienced at the workstation. They will conduct a thorough assessment, focusing on the current workstation posture to consider whether the user is set up in a position that is or could cause potential problems. Relative positions and adjustability of individual aspects of equipment, such as the chair or monitor, will be considered and solutions to improve the individuals’ needs will be provided. This will reduce muscular stresses impacted on the user to allow for a more comfortable working environment and thus enhance performance.


The Assessment will include:

  • One to one individual evaluation,
  • Gain detailed information on the working tasks, workstation, postures developed and working environment.
  • Detailed check list, including work tasks, chair, desk, monitor, keyboard, mouse, workspace and environment evaluated to assess whether appropriate
  • On sight alterations
  • Basic DSE information will be given with regards to improved set up, posture, rest breaks etc.
  • Recommendations on ways to further improve users’ posture to thus reduce symptoms.


A detailed written report will be included following the assessment. It will highlight findings, what on sight alterations were made, provide further recommendations that should be made and what advice was given to the user to further improve. If the report includes recommendations for further equipment to be purchased, suggestions on suppliers for this equipment will be included. If following the assessment the individual would also benefit from physiotherapy, "Ergonomics Work" will aim to advise on where this can be sought at. It is to the discretion of the employer whether this cost is through the business or the individual to finance.

Ultimately the assessment, followed by the report, aims to provide support and guidance to employers in order to adhere to DSE legislation enforced.
